The 2026 World Cup Official Match Ball “TRIONDA” and Its Smart Chip
On October 2, 2025, FIFA unveiled the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in New York, USA. Named “TRIONDA,” this ball not only integrates cultural elements from the United States, Canada, and Mexico in its design but also reaches new heights in technological application.
Design Symbolism: The name “TRIONDA” originates from Spanish, meaning “three converging waves,” symbolizing the historic moment when three nations join forces to host the World Cup for the first time. The ball’s main body features red, green, and blue colors, adorned with iconic patterns such as maple leaves, eagles, and stars, representing Canada, Mexico, and the United States respectively. Gold detailing pays tribute to the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
Technological Innovation: In terms of craftsmanship, TRIONDA employs a new four-panel construction combined with fluid geometry, ensuring stability during flight. The embossed surface pattern enhances friction, helping players maintain control and accuracy when shooting in wet conditions.
However, the most striking feature is its built-in 500Hz motion-sensing smart chip. This marks an upgrade in smart chip technology following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The chip records and transmits every touch of the ball with real-time, high precision, providing accurate data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. This technology will greatly assist referees in making more scientific and accurate decisions on critical calls such as offside and handball, ensuring fairness in the game. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that TRIONDA not only embodies the unity and passion of the three host nations but also, with its built-in technology, will serve as a reliable assistant to referees, witnessing every brilliant moment on the pitch.
